http://www.methodshop.net/mp3/ipodsuppor鈥?/a> gives good tips on what to do if you drop your device in water.

Kill the power! Water and electricity don't mix. Removing power immediately is the most important step, because the electrolytic action of electricity, metals and a liquid, causes rapid corrosion of the fine electrical connections. So turn it off ASAP!

If it was immersed in clean water, a careful dry out is all that may be required. If it was immersed in dirty water, attempt to rinse it as best as you can. Then, shake out excess water, blow into crevasses with a can of air, shop air hose, etc. until no more water droplets come out.

Next, place it in a warm spot, such as near a heater or warm air vent. Wait 48 hours or more. The longer you wait the better. It needs to completely dry out. Always wait until the iPod is completely dry before plugging it in, or using it.

Once the iPod has completely dried out, cross your fingers and try turning it on. If you are lucky, it might work.

Many electronic devices can be rescued from water immersion if you act quickly. The most important thing to do right away is disconnect the power source. Remove batteries or unplug it immediately. Finally, place it in a warm spot, such as NEAR a heater, warm air vent, etc. After 24 hours, apply power and if you are lucky, it will work again. Apple.com has warranty information and #'s you can call.

Try using a hair dryer where it got wet.
Well, my iPod has gone through quite a bit. Dry it out and if it is still dead, you probably got a two-year warantee with it. The info you need should be on that paper.
you've got to get the salt out. If it's under warranty, return it. If not, take it apart and wipe it down iwth rubbing alcohol to get the salt out.
i think they do have a warrenty, otherwize i wouldnt of bought it! i am a disaster waiting to happen...just call the number that comes on the box saying %26quot;Questions or Comments? call this number..%26quot; you might get a free one!

ex: my gameboy fell in a birdbath( dont ask ) and i wrote to them saying how much i loved their product and how upset i was that it broke and they sent me a f ree one!
take it to the apple store. they will repair it or give you a new.

pie man out
you have yo get the salt out of it and make sure that there are no short circuits
You have just voided the warranty as Apple does not cover water damage, accidental damage, abuse and misuse. If you send it in for repair they will notice the water damage and send it back to you unrepaired. Having said that, you could use a hair dryer on low heat and if it works then good for you!! If it doesn't, you'll have a hard time getting it repaired even if you don't admit it to Apple that it was dropped in water, so you might want to invest in a new iPod and be more careful.

Good luck.

Additional info:

Everyone!! The warranty is void!! Even if the iPod is within the warranty, you need to read the terms and contidions and the warranty and policies, he voided it by dropping it into the water. I wouldn't suggest people open their iPods either unless you feel you have nothing to lose.

Even if you buy the extended warranty from Apple, dropping it in water (or any liquid for that matter) voids all warranties!
If it does have a warranty then you may still be out of luck there is this little sticker inside ipod that's small and a circle it will either be white pink or red this is called a LCI this shows water damage if it's red or pink it may not be covered under the warranty.
iPods have warrantys from Apple but you have to buy it from an Apple company. If your iPod is less than 1 year old you should have a warranty.
