Can a 1995 Pontiac Grandam Make It to Myrtle Beach SC from Rochester NY?

My grandam has140,000 thousand miles on it. it runs great... absolutley nothing wrong with it. great on gas and i have never had a problem with it.. only once my spark plugs were bad so it wouldn't start. but since they have been changed it starts up fine. My friends all say it won't make it down there and i shouldn't even try.. what do you think?

do you believe it will run until its next oil change? you're only talking about 1,000 mi, if you don't trust it to go that far you'd better be looking for a replacement

Don't listen to your friends and go you'll be just fine
I think that it will make it just fine. Grand Am's are reliable automobiles and if it has been maintained than it will make that trip(and back) with no problem.
go for it.......just get all your maintenance up to date......I would suggest taking it to a mechanic and tell him what you are doing and ask him to look it over to see if there is anything that jumps out at him that may cause problems.....

while your there change the oil and get the plugs changed.....replace the air filter and check the tires and you should be fine.....

and don't be in a big hurry to get there....take your time drive the speed limit and stop a few times to stretch your legs or eat and let the car rest......I think you should be just fine if you take it easy and get the maintenance done!!!! good luck and happy traveling!!!
i wish i could tell people when their car would break . i would be rich. no one has that answer. if you want to go. then go. if you break down it will be a maturing experience. have fun on your trip. 16 yrs ASE cert. retired
I had a grand am and it ran fine drove so smooth and drove hrs at the same operating tempatures. If I were you I'd drive it and check is the engines tempature steady once it reaches peek tempatures, if so that says the engine is running pretty good. Example my car now I drive it 2 hrs the temperature barely moves and stays the same tempature until I drive it 8 hrs straight and then it hits it's peek temperature regardless if I drove it 12 to 22 hrs straight.

Just be sure to check the vehicle over fully such things as the rad, water pump for leaks , rad hoses for leaks or softness, make sure the anti-freeze is the right level and mixture with a anti-freeze tester, check all belts, tires , brake fluid levels etc.

If I were you I'd take duck tape, electrical tape for fixing on the spot hose leaks temporary, take extra belts and hoses with you , basic first aide kit, have a cell phone handy too, and be sure you have a good spare tire with you. I'd buy a AAA membership and I'd probably get extra fuses , belts and other spare parts from a do it yourself auto wreckers.

Hope that helps and best of luck. By the way I really loved my grand am and thought it was one of the best cars I've owned , and I've owned several cars in my life and driven enough miles to drive around the world 4 times already.

I don't suggest anybody go on long drives like that alone bec it's not safe and it's best to have a back up driver or second driver.Hope you've a great time and go with your gut on this descion , people said I was crazy driving my car over 5,500 miles but I knew it be fine. Be sure to take extra cash for minor things with you though too.
i have a 1994 ford escort 180.000 miles just went to Florida and back i live in Michigan. check your hoses before you go you should be fine.
