South Beach Diet-more than i am used to eating...will i gain weight?

my usual diet was very scattered. i'd skip breakfast usually, then have something to eat around 2pm, and then dinner around 9pm.

SBD is requiring me to eat 3 meals and snacks, which is a big change for me. will i just gain weight on it, instead of losing it?

With all diets that people go on with the hope of losing weight, feeling and looking better, the golden rule is to commit to the lifestyle change. There is no such thing as a temporary change that leads to permanent results.

The rationale behind the 3 meals/3 snacks lifestyle is to jump-start your metabolism. Many people who were on SBD did end up gaining weight. This is because diet alone is not enough on South Beach.

In some studies, people's stomachs actually got larger as they got used to eating more. When that happened, and they didn't see the results they were hoping to see, they ended up going off the diet and having to eat more to compensate because now they were used to eating more than before!

Follow the recommended foods and serving sizes that are indicated in their books (obviously).

But also ensure that if you are jump-starting your metabolism you are also jump-starting your heart. You should increase the number of times per day that your heart rate goes up. This is easily done through some minor changes in daily routine. Walk to your destinations faster than you would normally walk. Use the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. The idea behind this technique is to ensure that the vitamins and fats that the body is now metabolizing has a place to go that require the additional metabolized output (muscular and circulatory systems). Not only is this a simple work-out and is good for you, but you'll drum up those happy hormones called endorphins.

Good luck!

Your metabolism works faster if you eat. Dont skip meals, eat small portions, 3-4 times a day.
no it will actually work better....if you skip meals...you might be skinny but what good is it if your not healthy...
eating like that will help you lose weight. when you dont eat much your body will slow down your metabolism and store more fat because it is preparing your body for starvation conditions
