How does sediment size change along the beach (like from the sea to the back of the beach/cliffs) and why??

when the tide is fully in it carries the heavier stones etc up the beach and when it is going back out it doesn't have the power to take them back out to sea, thats why the larger heavier pieces of sediment, rocks pebbles etc, are always further up the beach, away from the shore line

its gets smaller due to erosion as they move along the beach they get worn down
