Due to the current oil spill in the gulf, my family and I are changing vacation plans. Any ideas?

I would like to take my family on vacation in a beach location. My wife and I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old that we will be bringing with us. Great family accommodations a must. Great golf a plus. I would really like to give them a great vacation and the oil spill in the gulf scares me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

San Diego - especially for the great golf opportunities. It's got a terrific climate and a huge number of tourist activities. you could also go to one of the East Coast beaches in Florida, Virginia Beach (and visit Williamsburg while you're there) or Myrtle Beach - another golfing Mecca.

I don't know what your original plans were, or when you plan to vacation. But if you're leaving immediately, Panama City in Florida might still be safe. But it won't be for long, I'm afraid. Tar balls are already washing up in Pensacola beach, and the oil slick is projected to head eastward.

You could try some of the beaches on the east coast of Florida. Or if you plan to leave very soon, most of the western part of the Florida peninsula should be safe for the next few weeks. You may just want to avoid any part of the Florida panhandle in the upcoming days.

I have heard that Galveston, TX and South Padre Island are nice beach locations, but I've never visited. You could also try any of the eastern seaboard beaches. They'll be safe from the oil for many months. Virginia Beach, Daytona Beach, etc. are still very safe from the oil. You could also try the beaches of North Carolina. I here they're very nice. And if you are planning a long vacation that includes driving, you could drive from the North Carolina beaches to the Great Smokies for some mountain sightseeing in a few hours.
Perhaps you can still go to Florida but to the ocean side instead?

I'm a Florida Gulf Coast person myself, but I'm sure the beaches from Miami up to Jacksonville are just as lovely. And I bet the kids would love it if you made a stop in at Orlando (Disney/Universal Studios)! We usually get some super low airfares flying into the smaller Orlando Sanford airport.

I'm sure the Florida Department of Tourism would love it if you could visit Florida during this oil spill crisis.
Lake Tahoe! There is plenty for the whole family to do, and you'll be safe from the oil!

Tons of golf courses - http://www.gotahoenorth.com/events-and-a鈥?/a>

Plus Beaches, Biking, Hiking, Water Sports, Spas, Camping, Fishing, Horseback Riding, Tennis, Swimming Pools, Art Classes, Ropes Courses, Climbing Walls %26amp; Trapeze Lessons, Outdoor Movies/Concerts, Playgrounds and WAY more! One of my favorite vacation spots that's got it all!

Have a blast!
