I broke my leg a few weeks ago and I am on crutches with a full leg cast. My friends are planning to head to the beach this weekend. Would I be ok to go to the beach if I don't go near the water? Would I be able to crutch properly on the sand? would it be weird with my good leg tanned while my leg cast would be so much lighter once the cast is changed to a shorter cast or off completely?
Going to the beach with a broken leg?
You're better off staying away from the beach. Number one - it is almost impossible to crutch in the sand, number two - you will get bored, number three - you will get sand up your cast. If this happens then you itch like hell and cant get it out. You leg can swell up and you have to get the doc asap to get the cast taken off and the preasure relieved. Also, your leg will get super hot from all the heat.
I urge you not to go. Hope this helps - good luck. How did you break your leg??
Going to the beach with a broken leg?
Either you'll be extremely bored, or you will re-injure it. Don't even plan on going.
to walk in the sand with crutches will not be ease you may have to miss it a few week sorry
My advice is don't go to the beach. Your leg is healing and is better to keep that way, at the beach, your crutches hardly work properly and you may re-injure your leg. Your friends will understand your situation, I think you can't take the risk of re-injure your leg. Good luck and get well soon...
Very sorry about your condition, I too am in a full leg cast and it is not easy. The problem with the beach is that your crutches probably will sink into the sand and you might settle on your cast. Getting sand inside could also be a problem, although a good vacuum might extract it. I have used my crutches at Siesta Key Beach in FL, that sand is fairly firm and my crutches did not sink.
